THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE THINGS

I finished this cross stitch last night. It's the first time I've done any cross stitching for a good 4 years I reckon. I'm definitely more of a knitter, I just fancied a change, and something to hang on my wall. The pattern is by Sewing Seed but I'm going to be totally honest and admit that I copied it from an image I found on google instead of getting the actual pattern, hence why it isn't totally accurate.

I've named him Dalziel the Deer, and I've promised him to Beau for his room, but until I hammer up a hook, he's gone in the gallery in our room. While I was photographing him, I thought I'd show a few of my other favourite arty bits in our home. They're all very low budget (or free!) but I love them all:

This is the gallery in our bedroom. The house is a Conran print from M&S. The oval frame contains an old map I found online of the south east of England, and I put a little turquoise heart over Tunbridge Wells. The city scape and the lights on the tree are images I printed off of the interwebs, the three little white frames are things I made with a little help from online images and my own imagination, the cross stitch hoop is obviously out Dalziel the Deer, and next to that is an empty frame which I need some inspiration for!

This is maybe my favourite piece of art ever. I took a load of photos with the Hipstamatic app on my iPhone when Beau was a tiny babba. He was taking a nap on our bed and I just decided to play around with the effects on the app, then came up with this great idea of how to use them. I probably saw something on pinterest which prompted the idea, but it's that long ago that I have forgotten so I'm going to take full credit for it now :o) I had the photos printed and mailed to me from the in app print lab, then I put them in this cool frame from IKEA. I also love that the shadow on the bed about Beau's head makes him look like a baby unicorn in this photos, or is he a narwhal? Either way, he is cool as ****

My sister cross stitched this for Beau, and we LOVE it! She started it when I was pregnant then just added in his name etc once he arrived. It's now part of our bedtime routine that we go and say na'night to all the animals in the ark. Thanks aunty Becs!

This is in our dining room (excuse the rank woodchip wall, I wish we could get rid of it but we rent so there is just no point) and this is the work of James' very talented brother Mark. This is his Golden Era print, and if you love hip hop, you need this in your life. He also does really cool t shirts and hoodies. Go get some, and thank me later.

This is a print I picked up in a shop in the north laines in Brighton. Again, it's in one of the IKEA frames. I also have a Hawaii one in a similar style. My family lived in Perth for a year when I was a toddler, and I've been back twice to visit, so anything Australia inspired always catches my attention. I would actually move to Aus in a heartbeat. Some good friends of mine emigrated to Melbourne last year and I would really love to follow them out there. Right now we wouldn't qualify for a visa, but one day I hope to train as a midwife, and you never know, that could be our ticket out there.

My lovely mumma bought me this as a house warming present, and it hangs proudly in our kitchen. I know the phrase in this is such a cliche, but it's so incredibly true. I think you only realise this when you spend a significant amount of time somewhere which doesn't feel like home though. I experienced this when I did a three month ski season when I was 20, and I was a little bit miserable. I would call my mum and ask her what she was doing, and she would say "Nothing very exciting darling, I'm just about to go and do the Sainsbury's shop" and I would get this intense pang of jealousy that mum was going to Sainsbury's and I wasn't, it was weird. Saying that, I think I just did my ski season at the wrong time. Looking back, I should have made so much more of it than I did, and had so much more fun. I guess at 20, I just didn't have the confidence, and took life a little too seriously. If I were to do it again now...oh the things I would do differently :o)

Home is always there, but sometimes you have to push yourself out of your comfort zone and experience different things. Hindsight is a bitch isn't it?

This is what Beau calls "Hammers Birdies". I bought this from my friend Hannah, owner of Love Inc Ltd, and if you're ever in Tunbridge Wells, you must make a trip there to see her treasure trove. Hannah is a collector of all things vintage and beautiful, and anything she doesn't fall absolutely head over heels to die for dangerously in love with, she reluctantly sells to the likes of you and me. I got my sister a gorgeous vintage leather handbag from her last year for Becs' birthday, and if my house wasn't shoebox like in size, I would have bought the whole stinking lot while I was there I reckon. Hannah also does antique fairs and the like, so check her out whenever you can.

That's all for now folks, happy Monday

xo
